Today you will be cruising for about seven hours through beautiful landscapes towards Luang Prabang. The Mekong River is at the bottom of a steep sided valley, with tropical forest invading its banks, and from time to time a village will appear. Arrive at Luang Prabang the old royal capital and a UNESCO-classified world heritage site. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5 - Luang Prabang (B)
Visit this city found on the left bank of the Mekong River. Previously a religious capital, Luang Prabang showcases more than 100 temples, considered amongst the most beautiful in Laos. In particular, you will discover:
Vat Xieng Thong or Temple of the Royal City - a vast collection of sacred buildings and the most beautiful temple in the city.
Vat May - built at the end of the 18th century, a capped sanctuary featuring a five sided roof surmounted by three parasols.
Vat Visoun - the oldest temple in the city with its wooden windows inspired by the Khmer Temple of Vat Phou.
Vat Aham - located just beside Vat Visoun, framed by two large Banyan trees.

You can swim in the waterfall which scatters into many basins. Return to Luang Prabang and spend the balance of day free at your leisure. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 7 - Luang Prabang - Vientiane (B)
In the morning, cross the Mekong to its right bank to see two small temples now abandoned to nature. Then, after a few minutes on a motor boat, discover a pottery village. Day 8 - Vientiane sightseeing - Departure (B)
Tour Vientiane visiting:
Vat Sisaket - which, in spite of the Siamese influence, presents an architecture all of its own. The largest temple in Vientiane, it is considered the most beautiful and its old ‘Bangkok’ style has indeed saved it from destruction.
Vat Phra Keo - built in 1565 celebrates the Emerald Buddha it shelters. It was rebuilt identically in 1942. Located in a pretty garden, it shelters the Buddha under sloping, superb carved wood panels.
Pha That Louang - a cloister guarding a large stupa that was saved when the city was raided by the Siamese. Damaged by the Ho plunderers Ho in 1873, it was restored by the French in 1930. It has become the symbol of the nation, representing both Buddhism and Lao’s sovereignty. This large relic is a masterpiece of Laotian architecture.
Patuxay - a monument established in memory of the war with France. A panoramic view of Vientiane can be seen from the top.
